How badly do pedestrians get injured when run into by these current gen trucks? The grill area is so flat I feel it would be like getting hit by a bus. I know car's follow hood height regulations and other things to prevent death.

IMO these current trucks are quite ugly. Figured I should take a stance on that issue too.

Call me a dick, but I don't think pedestrian safety should have anything to do with vehicle regulations. It's up to the pedestrian to pay attention to where they're walking, and up to the driver of the vehicle to do their best not to mow anyone over.

I agree, I was just wondering how someone would fare if they got hit. I drive a 2nd gen trans am, if I hit somebody they will get cut in half (okay that may be an exaggeration but you get the idea).

All other animals have thinning of the gene pool. Why do have to keep protecting the dumb humans from death?

A couple things:

1) No North American countries have pedestrian safety standards. So the trucks aren't designed to meet them.

2) A big front end is better for pedestrian safety because it's more surface area to absorb the impact. With a hood that high, though, the pedestrian is likely to get knocked down and run over rather than flipped up and chucked into the windshield and hood.

You think you're in some Communist country, like Europe? (Just a joke you over-regulated folks). Use common sense. Look before you cross. This ain't the grocery store. (note, this was all in jest. Keep the hate comments to yourself).

Europe... I see what you did there. That looks rather uncomfortable.

There's so much plastic up front there that the force would be fairly distributed would be my guess.

. Good one for Mythbusters. cause I ain't trying that at home.

You are, of course, assuming that the pedestrian is the stupid person in this instance. I've had plenty of times when the car runs the stop sign in front of my office building when I'm crossing the street. I'm not the stupid one in this case. Just fleet of foot.

Pedestrian safety regulations for trucks are coming soon. 2017 or 2018 IIRC. Will try to find the exact wording, but its coming.

Next step: airbags on the front so when I mow over a hipster inattentively jaywalking on his phone, airbag deploys, he goes flying about thirty feet, he gets up, semi-dazed, but ok, I'm out a grand or so for the airbag, we have a beer, and laugh about the whole thing. I am somehow okay with this.

I personally never assume drivers are going to stop when I'm crossing a street. I don't care if the light is red, AND I have the walk signal if I'm not certain they see me or are coming to a stop I dont walk in front of them. Now if someone goes on a rampage or has a medical emergency, and jumps the curb onto the sidewalk thats another story.
